Job Purpose
The Sr. Controls Technician provides hands-on technical leadership and support for manufacturing operations, ensuring equipment functionality, process efficiency, and product quality in an automotive production environment. This role coordinates daily activities, resolves complex technical issues, and serves as a mentor to other technicians. The Sr. Controls Technician works closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to maintain smooth operations and drive continuous improvement.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and prioritize the work of operations technicians to support production goals and respond to equipment or process issues.
- Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, or process-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and implement improvements in equipment performance and process reliability.
- Provide guidance and training to junior technicians on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety practices.
- Ensure accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and process changes.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
Education and Qualifications
- High School Diploma, Trade School, or Associate’s Degree
- 7+ years of experience
- 3+ years of controls related experience
- Plant floor experience
- Rockwell Automation PLC programming and HMI development.
- Electronics and mechanical equipment, and hydraulics and pneumatics
- Mechanics and machine functions knowledge.
- Knowledge of problem solving experience troubleshooting.ooting and approval of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and robotic controls. Also, assist in the preparation of control standards and technical manuals.
Skills
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems used in automotive production.
- Ability to lead a team, delegate tasks effectively, and ensure alignment with production and maintenance priorities.
- Skilled in identifying issues, analyzing data, and implementing effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly.
