Job Purpose

Support production programs and apply knowledge of materials, tools and machine technology.  Maintain various forming tool records.  Maintain tool inventory levels. Manage tool room and build activities using in-plant resources and outside vendors

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:

  • Diagnosis manufacturing and tooling problems daily to design or modify for efficient and cost-effective means of quality production.  Participate in team solving activities.
  • Recommend for approval, purchase of materials and equipment necessary for improvement to die assembly process.  
  • Maintain tool life and capability history for use in cost evaluation and tool inventory levels.
  • Maintain die-assembly inspection reports to ensure proper setups are released to production.
  • Maintain tooling serial number log and issues the latest number to engineering when a new tool is ordered.
  • Maintain tooling purchase requisition file and update the file weekly with the tool room.
  • Specify and maintain inventory of all extrusion tooling levels (minimum and maximum).
  • Coordinate the assembly and disassembly of all extrusion and production tooling such as die stacks, punches, pushers, sleeves and punch retainers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintain strong interface and communication with manager/supervisor of extrusion department to support production.
  • Participate in APQP process to ensure lessons learned are applied to new programs.
  • Maintain action plan for continuous improvement of die assembly department.
  • Manage the workload for direct reports and prioritize department task.
     

Education Required/Preferred:

  • Associates Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Tool Design, or equivalent work experience.
  • Two or three years of experience in working press operations and various manufacturing machines.
