Position summary

We are looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer in Rivoli (TO).
Dana is searching for a skilled and motivated candidate in the area of Driveline Systems to support the development of electrified driveline systems for its Light Vehicle Drive Systems business unit.

  • This work involves developing complete 3-in-1 electrified driveline systems, subsystems and components to improve and expand Dana’s product portfolio with a commitment to improving vehicle safety, performance and fuel economy. 

Main responsibilities

  • Lead requirements generation, design and development of new and innovative driveline products/systems from concept to production with emphasis on electrified driveline system products including responsibility for delivery of mechanical, electrical, software, and thermal systems (motor, inverter, gearbox, mechatronics/actuators, cooling, lubrication, software)
  • Work with supporting global development teams to develop and implement product strategies
  • Support implementation of “end game” view of vehicle level integration that includes all attributes, and customer “why buys”
  • Work in partnership with Program Management, Mechatronics and other business units to align and execute product strategy
  • Lead generation of all system level engineering/quality documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, Boundary Diagrams, PD, Functional Safety, etc.) and manage requirements cascade to subsystems and components
  • Identify competitive benchmarking needs and work in partnership with benchmarking organization to collect needed data
  • Develop initial sourcing and manufacturing strategies in collaboration with Purchasing and Manufacturing organizations
  • Follow Program Management and Stage Gate development processes to meet project goals including budget, timing and quality of delivery for identified projects
  • Lead all necessary root cause investigations, ICAs, PCAs, and document lessons learned and update OneDana procedures as applicable

Job position requirements

Education:
University bachelor’s degree - mechanical, mechatronic, or related engineering discipline

Master’s degree preferred

 

Professional background

5 years’ experience required, preferred electrified drive systems (motor, inverter, gearbox)

 

Language Skills

English (fluency in reading, writing and speaking)

Hard skills

Essential:

  • Strong overall knowledge of electrified drive subsystems (motor, inverter, gearbox, cooling, lubrication, software)
  • Vehicle integration experience of vehicle level attributes and system level requirements
  • Experience, including vehicle packaging of P/HEV and BEV integration, preferred
  • Strong understanding of vehicle level attributes / target-setting process
  • Strong experience applying Systems Engineering Fundamentals and adherence to process/principals.
  • Working level experience with requirements mgt. tools such as Doors, Polarion, VSEM, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Working level knowledge of vehicle control systems including CAN, strategy, calibration, and software mgt. tools / release process
  • Application experience preferred
  • Awareness of ISO26262 / Functional Safety
  • Experience creating/reviewing quality documentation including DFMEA, BD, PD, DVP&R, SDS, etc.
  • Application experience with team leadership preferred
  • Working level knowledge of subsystem/component manufacturing/assembly methods and vehicle assembly.
  • Subsystem/component manufacturing/assembly experience and experience with vehicle assembly, product/vehicle launch, and end of line test methods preferred

 

Considered as a plus: 

  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally (10-15% typical)

Soft skills

  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of deliverables and lead resolution of issues
  • Must be a self-directed and motivated individual who is organized and able to accept multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside of Dana in a professional manner
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, planning, problem solving and decision-making skills with ability to successfully function in and lead cross-functional teams
