Senior Thermal Engineer - Refrigerant Heat Exchanger Development

Oakville, ON, CA, L6K 3E4

Requisition:  64799

Dana Incorporated’s Light Vehicle Thermal Division designs and manufactures powertrain‑agnostic, advanced thermal‑management solutions for the rapidly evolving mobility landscape. We are seeking a Thermal Engineer to support the design and development of refrigerant‑based heat exchangers for next‑generation automotive heat pump systems.

In this role, you will contribute to both analytical and hands‑on development activities, including improving our two‑phase prediction tools, analyzing complex test data, coordinating prototype builds, and supporting customer‑facing development programs. You will help guide products from concept through validation and into production launch.

This position provides the opportunity to collaborate with a global, multi‑disciplinary engineering team to develop high‑performance heat exchanger technologies that enable more efficient and sustainable vehicle platforms.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Advance refrigerant heat exchanger designs by contributing innovative concepts that improve performance, manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Contribute to our analytical prediction capability for two-phase refrigerant heat exchangers through thermal analysis, coordination of testing activities and empirical data analysis
  • Coordinate prototype builds, including design support, procurement and assembly oversight, to ensure on time delivery to customers and readiness for design validation
  • Prepare technical inputs for RFIs and RFQs, including performance predictions, sizing assessments and design recommendations
  • Support APQP activities and design validation testing to ensure product performance, durability, manufacturability and quality
  • Identify and drive continuous improvements in heat exchanger performance, development processes and analytical toolchains.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would:

  • Have a university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong background in heat transfer, thermal‑fluid systems, and heat exchanger design, ideally including two‑phase refrigerant systems.
  • Have exposure to manufacturing processes relevant to heat exchangers, such as sheet metal forming, brazing and machining.
  • Have proven experience analyzing complex data and making sound engineering decisions based on quantitative evidence.
  • Demonstrate strong data-analysis skills using modern engineering tools (e.g. Python, Matlab or similar).
  • Communicate clearly in written and spoken English; additional languages are an asset due to Dana’s global customer base.
