Dana Canada Corporation is a leading Canadian manufacturer of Heat Exchangers for the OEM and Aftermarket Transportation Industry. Our Engineering group has an opening for a Materials Engineering-Process Development Engineer at our R&D Center in Oakville, Ontario.

Reporting to the Manager, Materials & Joining Technology Research, this positon will be based in our Oakville R&D center.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Interpretation of materials characterization results for new products, materials research & development projects in the field of aluminum and copper alloys and selection/validation of new materials.
  • Lead the experimental development as well as validate and implement the process specifications, quality conformance, and root cause analysis of electro–plating technologies under supervision of a Senior Engineer/Project Lead.
  • Develop and validate procedures to analyze metal to metal bonding strength, durability, and corrosion performance based on plants / customer requirements.
  • Assist in leading projects with close monitoring of the laboratory experiments/trials, data and report compilation including but not limited to the tensile, lap shear, fatigue, hardness measurement techniques.
  • Develop and review test records/documents for internal and external distribution, conformance report for the automotive heat exchanger corrosion, coolant compatibility performance according to the industrial specifications.
  • Effectively present information/results to the managers, product engineers and address internal and external customer requirements.
  • Design experiments for the root cause analysis, propose corrective actions, and transform the test results into presentable investigation reports.
  • Proactively contribute to problem-solving and brainstorming sessions and propose innovative solutions.
  • Effectively communicate with the laboratory technologist/associates in accordance with the Dana health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Support product engineering includes cold plates and PECs, contingent upon workload of materials engineering workload and the urgence of demands.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum post Secondary Education in Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering Background (B.Eng.).
  • Minimum 1-3 year of prior experience in engineering roles, preferably in the automotive-related industries.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and electrochemical testing procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Understanding furnace brazing, joining/welding principles, and thermal management fundamentals are considered as an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and trouble shooting skills and profound understanding of DOE, failure mechanisms, and joint analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated skills for presenting to technical groups, proficient understanding of engineering drawings, technical/material specifications, and create fast feedback loops to confirm the understanding.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and facilitation skills. Proactive forward thinking in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, and ability to multi-task effectively on projects and assignments.
  • Prior experience with the machinery and processes involved in the automotive industry. Understand automotive, health/safety requirements, and manufacturing standards.
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English, excellent interpersonal skills, and be a team player, who is both flexible and creative in their approach to problem solving various challenges.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint.
