Sr. ePowertrain Product Platform Engineer
Maumee, OH, US, 43537
Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains. Serving two primary markets – passenger vehicle and commercial truck equipment – Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.
Job Purpose
Lead the system-level development of an ePropulsion product platform that becomes the reusable baseline for customer applications. You will translate product strategy into a flexible, validated architecture and align internal engineering teams and suppliers across mechanical, electrical, thermal, controls, and software domains. This role is designed for an engineer who can connect deep system thinking with disciplined execution and relationship-based technical leadership.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Platform Definition
· Partner with the ePropulsion product segment champion to define platform targets, priorities, and a continuous-improvement roadmap aligned with product strategy and customer value.
· Develop scalable system architectures and lead cross-domain trade studies that balance performance, efficiency, durability, cost, packaging, manufacturability, safety, cybersecurity, and reuse.
· Apply structured system risk methods, such as FMEA, HARA, and TARA as applicable, to drive architecture, requirements, mitigation, and leadership decisions.
· Own platform-level requirements and interfaces across domains, ensuring alignment from architecture through system integration.
Platform Execution, Integration, and Validation
· Lead performance, durability, and cross-domain analysis for architectures that may include high-voltage motors, inverters, controllers, thermal systems, and single- or multi-speed gearboxes.
· Initiate and coordinate CAD, CAE, and system-modeling studies for concept assemblies and subassemblies; use evidence to resolve interface issues and select robust design directions.
· Define and lead system integration and verification activities in test-cell, vehicle, or other customer-representative environments. Ensure results are traceable to requirements, risks, reliability targets, and applicable regulations.
· Work with Advanced Engineering to identify high-value technologies and mature selected concepts into integrated proof-of-concept prototypes suitable for platform adoption.
· Own system-level risk and change management. Assess cross-domain impacts, maintain decision and baseline traceability, and escalate residual risk with clear evidence and recommendations.
· Lead internal platform design reviews and support customer-specific design reviews so launch programs apply platform requirements, interfaces, and reuse strategies consistently.
Technical Leadership without Direct Authority
· Provide overall platform direction to a cross-functional technical team without direct reporting responsibility. Establish clarity, build trust, create shared accountability, and align specialists around system outcomes.
· Enable strong, independent business-unit application engineering teams to reuse the platform through clear integration documentation, design constraints, and support for customer-funded customization.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related discipline; master’s degree preferred
- 7+ years of powertrain or ePowertrain engineering experience in any of these areas: system engineering, design, simulation, testing, calibration, controls, embedded software, electrical hardware, or product integration.
- Advanced knowledge in systems integration, mechanical design, product validation.
- Proficient knowledge of relationship-based leadership, full system modeling, systems architecture, functional safety, FEA/CFD simulation.
- Basic knowledge of embedded product cybersecurity, embedded SW, electronic HW
