Job Purpose
The Product Manager reports to the Director, Product Management & Strategy, Commercial Vehicle Systems, and is responsible for the development and execution of product line strategies that bring value to the marketplace. They function as experts in their product lines for the organization. Product Managers are responsible for pricing strategy, marketing activities, and project management. They are accountable for growing their product line offerings and achieving sales, margin, and market share goals
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Strategy
- Develop and execute approved product line strategies that will drive the sales and marketing effort for assigned product lines
- Update annually or as needed
- Use tools to track and plan
- Develop product road maps and operating plans
- Execute product line initiatives to achieve objectives
- On-time and within budget to achieve desired results
- Measure the effectiveness of initiatives to provide ongoing research and analysis
- Develop and demonstrate proficiency in systems available to measure results
- Ability to proactively address changing conditions
- Report findings to other CV departments
• Planning
- Plan product line activities and manage according to the marketing calendar
- Participate in AOP and LRP processes as required
- Develop and implement approved annual pricing strategies for each product line to meet pricing targets while ensuring market competitiveness
- Participate as needed in initiatives to effectively manage CV’s multiple brands
• Control
- Provide regular analysis of each product line’s performance
- Use tracking templates to monitor promotions and provide feedback to the sales group
- Measure the effectiveness of product line strategies to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
• Customer Satisfaction
- Development of product line training programs
- Maintain product line catalog information and cross references
- Maintain customer contact to facilitate the flow of market intelligence
- Maintain product content updated on the website
• Secondary Accountabilities:
- Manages product line content – depth and breadth
- Provides primary pricing strategy/market analysis to ensure competitive position and accuracy
- Cross-functional communication of product and marketing initiatives
- Follow and lead the team of functional representatives through projects
- Work across the Marketing department on various initiatives
- Utilize industry contacts to assist with the elimination of excess and surplus inventories
- Domestic and international travel is required, 15% of the time
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree
• 7+ years of experience in Product Management, Program Management, Engineering, or Purchasing
• Knowledge of the Commercial Vehicle industry, markets, OEM processes, competitive products, and industry issues
• Strong knowledge of steer axle products is preferred
• Strong technical background and an Engineering or Business degree
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong analytical skills, organizational skills, and proven aptitude for numbers
• Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Dana in a professional manner, and the ability to work in a team environment
• Must be able to work extra hours when necessary
• Excellent written and verbal communication in both English and Spanish is preferred
