Job Purpose

The EHSS Manager is responsible for implementation of practices, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of employees and the protection of the environment. EHSS is critical in fostering a sustainable working environment, minimizing risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The EHSS Manager plays a central role in developing, implementing, and overseeing the various components of EHSS within the organization, striving to create a hazard-free workplace. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Member of the Plant Leadership Team
  • Manage and maintain ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Program certification and it’s requirements
  • Develops pro-active Safety & Health programs to identify and eliminate workplace hazards.
  • Develop and implement an accident and near miss investigation process. Ensure OSHA record keeping is being completed. Track first aid cases, accidents and lost time accidents, and near misses to determine injury trends and develop plans for improvement
  • Develop an operational checklist regarding all OSHA requirements for 29 CFR General Industry 1910 and all subparts to help assure that the facility meets regulatory requirements e.g. Lock/Out Tag/Out, Fall protection, specific machine guarding requirements, industrial hygiene issues, material handling and the use of material handling equipment like chains/hoists and cranes, fire protection, powered work platforms and powered industrial equipment e.g. forklifts and other lift trucks, life safety, hazardous materials, PPE, electrical, welding, toxic and hazardous substances, record keeping and other risk based H&S provisions as necessary to help assure a safe and healthy work environment
  • Provide training on hazard analysis, regulatory compliance standards, machine guarding, ergonomics, accident investigation and other basic H&S matters pertaining to the facility H&S compliance and management (i.e. Lock/Out Tag/Out, etc.) as applicable.
  • Develop and formalize processes to assure proper H&S provisions are incorporated into all jobs performed at the facility, employing techniques of job safety and safe job procedures.
  • Develop a specific facility Emergency Response and Evacuation program with periodic evaluation drills to assure the program’s effectiveness
  • Serves as the primary contact for OSHA/TOSHA audits
  • Coordinates internal industrial hygiene surveys
  • Approves implementation of all plant chemicals and provides input into all plant equipment purchases
  • Coordinates appropriate and cost effective safety training to ensure sustained employee safety
  • Requires Operations to Review Safety presentations
  • Meet all requirements in CBA in regard to safety and security
  • Maintain Workers Compensation program
  • Manage plant Environmental Program to include maintaining ISO 14001 certification.
  • Manage/participate with plant security needs

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering or related field preferred or equivalent experience in Safety
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and must be able to lead teams and interact with all levels in the plant 
  • Previous experience in a union environment preferred
  • Experience in worker’s compensation.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Ability to respond to safety emergencies during off-hours
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and to effectively communicate with others.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have regular attendance at the plant to be engaged and successfully perform job functions.
  • Perform other duties as required

 

 

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point
