Job Purpose
The Engineering Supervisor oversees a team of engineers responsible for developing, improving, and sustaining manufacturing processes within an automotive production environment. This role ensures engineering activities align with operational goals related to safety, quality, cost, and delivery. The supervisor provides technical guidance, manages daily priorities, and supports continuous improvement initiatives while fostering collaboration across departments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage daily tasks, priorities, and performance of manufacturing engineers to ensure timely and effective support of production operations.
- Lead and support initiatives focused on improving efficiency, reducing waste, and enhancing product quality using lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Provide technical assistance to resolve process and equipment issues, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
- Oversee engineering support for new product introductions, including process design, tooling development, and validation.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation.
- Lead a cross functional team of Engineers, Maintenance, Quality, Operations and other groups to solve problems and prevent reoccurrence
- Develop team through projects, feedback and training
- Oversee the daily activities of the Process Engineering Department and implement long term direction of group
- Manage plant and capital expenditures for projects plant-wide
- Maintain safety focus and drive safety improvements plant-wide
- Develop cost reduction and quality improvement projects
- Provide Engineering support of all issues in the production processes, and control design of new machines
- Lead introduction of automation to high labor cost departments
- The manager is responsible for leading and supporting continuous improvement activities
- Lead expansion of traceability and internal MES system
- Develop training plan process engineers
- Support maintenance group and take lead as required with more technical repairs.
- Support new business planning and implementation
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of applicable experience
- 7+ years of experience
Skills
- Strong ability to lead and motivate engineering teams, manage priorities, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Solid understanding of automotive manufacturing systems, process engineering, and industrial automation.
- Skilled in identifying root causes, evaluating options, and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams.
- Know and adhere to all applicable safety rules and procedures.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes to support on-time delivery.
- Knowledge of manufacturing technologies to assist in always supporting the needs of the customer.
- Knowledge of CAD and blueprints.
- Knowledge of products and cost, with strong problem solving skills and the ability to apply.
