Job Purpose

The Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of the organization to ensure efficiency, productivity, and alignment with strategic goals. This role is responsible for optimizing processes, managing resources, monitoring performance metrics, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver high‑quality results.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall management of the Production Supervisors, hourly Team Members, budget, expenses, processes & procedures.
  • Will support all Safety, Environmental, Quality, & Corporate & Plant level policies & procedures.
  • Provide leadership & manage the activities of the Production area to ensure that safety, quality, costs & delivery targets are attained or exceeded.
  • Monitor quality of department incoming & outgoing work.
  • Plan & schedule staffing requirement needed in order to meet specific quality standards & production objectives in all areas.
  • Analyze workflow, yields, production constraints & quality issues. Identify problems & develop solutions to continually improve the operations.
  • Determine & ensure training & development requirements are met.
  • Build & maintain productive employee relationships, driving employee satisfaction. Provide coaching, counseling, or discipline as needed. Recommend disciplinary action & review disciplinary action by supervisors for effectiveness & consistency. Work with HR to address employee concerns & issues including responses to grievances at step 2 of the grievance process.
  • Monitors forecasts & assigns priorities on customer need & production availability
  • Uses various tools, including MRP system to conduct capacity planning to determine production plan, & identify potential customer corrective actions such as scheduling OT, hire, layoff, outsourcing or expediting.
  • Foster continuous improvement or Lean Manufacturing concepts, using the appropriate techniques (5S, Process Mapping, Kaizen, etc.) to reduce inventory costs, improve cash flow, reduce obsolescence & reduce operating costs & improve safety & quality.
  • Review output from shop floor reporting & analyzes variances.
  • Develop trend analysis; identify methods of improvement to raise the level of accuracy & data entry efficiency.
  • Provide support to engineering for changes & product launches.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.
     

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in supervision in a manufacturing environment.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or a related field. 
  • Willingness to relocate as this is a developmental position intended to lead to promotion to Plant Manager role within a Dana Facility.
  • Track record of effectively resolving customer related issues, improving processes, helping in efficiency, leading a cross-functional team & driving accountability.
  • Proficient computer skills with ERP/MRP applications & Microsoft Office Applications, computer literacy applied to scheduling & data management.
  • Excellent organizational & professional communication skills – written & oral.
  • Strong team building & people skills including the ability to resolve conflicting interests & obtain cooperation.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills in forecasting & anticipating production needs & capabilities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems & deal with a variety of changing situations under stress.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously, planning & scheduling work & activities to routinely meet cost & schedule parameters.
  • Knowledge of the principles & techniques of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Must possess a detail orientation, be able to work effectively as an individual contributor & possess solid interpersonal relationship & communication skills.

 

Preferred

  • Automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Worked in a Unionized facility.
