Structure and thermal analysis Interno-Op/Intern/Trainee
Boucherville, Quebec, CA, Canada
Job Purpose
Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal‑management technologies that enhance the efficiency and performance of vehicles powered by both conventional and alternative energy systems.
Serving three primary markets—passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, and off‑highway equipment—Dana supports original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket through a global network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.
Dana’s TM4 division, located in Boucherville, specializes in the design and development of electric motors and inverters for commercial and light‑duty vehicle applications.
T
he Mechanical Analysis team at Dana TM4 supports the development of electric motors and inverters through structural and thermal simulation activities. This internship, starting on January 4th, 2027, will be divided between two complementary topics: structural analysis (approximately 70% of the internship) and thermal analysis (approximately 30%). The intern will contribute to simulation, experimental correlation, and research and development activities in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Structural topic (approximately 70%): improve the understanding and prediction of fatigue in printed circuit board (PCB) electronic components subjected to random vibration loading.
- Perform finite element analyses to evaluate the structural response of PCB assemblies and electronic components under random vibration environments.
- Carry out correlation studies between finite element models and experimental results.
- Define and document relevant modelling practices, indicators, and recommendations for assessing vibration-induced fatigue risk in electronic components.
- Thermal topic (approximately 30%):
- Study existing water-cooled motor electromagnetic 1D thermal analysis of steady state performance previously performed, and post-process the loss data to generate a thermal index.
- Compile all the different motor thermal indexes and perform a parametric analysis to relate the index to the motor geometry.
- Work with the electromagnetic team to improve their 1D analysis software to include a new option to use this thermal index to evaluate thermally limited performance for new designs based on motor geometry.
