Job Purpose

The Product Engineering Intern will support the Electric Motor Engineering team in the development, validation, and optimization of electric motors used in electrified powertrain systems. The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, testing, manufacturing, and quality to improve product performance and reliability.

This role provides hands-on experience in electric motor design, product validation, and engineering documentation within a fast-paced electrification environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist engineers in the design and development of electric motors for automotive and mobility applications.
• Support product validation testing, including performance, thermal, and durability testing.
• Analyze test data and simulation results to evaluate motor efficiency, torque, and reliability.
• Help prepare engineering documentation, reports, and design specifications.
• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with multidisciplinary teams.
• Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of motor performance issues.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives for product design and testing processes.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM).

 

Required Qualifications
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of electric machines, power electronics, or automotive systems.
• Familiarity with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar.
• Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent) is an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

 

Preferred Skills
• Understanding of electric motor principles (PMSM, induction motors).
• Knowledge of thermal management or electromagnetic simulation tools (ANSYS, Motor-CAD, JMAG).
• Experience with data analysis and engineering testing.
• Bilingual in English and French (asset in Quebec).
