Job Purpose

Dana is searching for a skilled and motivated candidate in the area of Engineer, Advanced Motor and Inverter Technology Development to support the development of high voltage motor and inverter technologies in support of Dana’s upcoming e-Propulsion platform hardware portfolio. This work involves developing key technologies to reduce cost, improve efficiency and performance, reduce packaging volume while simultaneously reducing implementation time to market.  Potential candidates with a background and interest in the following fields are encouraged to apply. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, implement and validate motor control algorithms for electrical machines, including IPM, SynRM, SPM, and IM. 
  2. Automate inverter and motor switching loss estimation by integrating MATLAB/Simulink with a motor reduced-order model.  
  3. Support design and prototype development of key technologies  
  4. Conduct testing, verify and troubleshoot faults of new motor control algorithms and inverter technologies  
  5. Conduct testing of smaller test bench assets and test articles to achieve key data validation on component level technologies 
  6. Analyze test data and provide key conclusions, recommendations and correlations to virtual models 
  7. Deep understanding of virtual and physical loadcases required to support validation of targets 
  8. Support project timelines to ensure clear communication of deliverables to upper management 
  9. Report semi-monthly to executive leadership on progress of technology development activities  
  10. Support symposium sessions to share learnings to cross-functional teams  
  11. Support IP generation 

Education and Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering  
  2. 3+ years experience in motor controls, inverter design, and electric drives or electric machines 
  3. 2+ years of industry hands-on lab experience in testing high voltage inverters, traction motors and related components 

Skills and Competencies

  1. Strong understanding of inverter and motor components, electromagnetics, traction motor topologies 
  2. Strong understanding of inverter and motor components, electromagnetics, traction motor topologies 
  3. Specific experience related to development of new inverter technology components interfacing with motor control systems  
  4. Specific experience in developing control algorithms for electric machines (IPM, SynRM, SPM, IM) 
  5. Solid foundation in control system theory, including system modeling, simulation, and advanced control design techniques. 
  6. Provide technical guidance on advanced inverter and motor control topics 
  7. System level experience integrating technology components to realize system performance, NVH, efficiency gains a plus 
  8. Machine learning usage in virtual simulation a plus 
  9. Knowledge of programming languages for prototype testing automation a plus 
  10. Ability to manage maturing projects while also supporting early concept ideas simultaneously 
  11. Must be a self-directed and motivated individual who is organized and able to accept multiple tasks and responsibilities 
  12. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Dana in a professional manner. 
  13. Ability to innovate and turn concepts into successful technology solutions 
  14. Ability to work on-site a minimum of (4) days per week from Boucherville, QC location 
  15. Preference to communicate in both French and English languages
