Job Purpose
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement and validate motor control algorithms for electrical machines, including IPM, SynRM, SPM, and IM.
- Automate inverter and motor switching loss estimation by integrating MATLAB/Simulink with a motor reduced-order model.
- Support design and prototype development of key technologies
- Conduct testing, verify and troubleshoot faults of new motor control algorithms and inverter technologies
- Conduct testing of smaller test bench assets and test articles to achieve key data validation on component level technologies
- Analyze test data and provide key conclusions, recommendations and correlations to virtual models
- Deep understanding of virtual and physical loadcases required to support validation of targets
- Support project timelines to ensure clear communication of deliverables to upper management
- Report semi-monthly to executive leadership on progress of technology development activities
- Support symposium sessions to share learnings to cross-functional teams
- Support IP generation
Education and Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
- 3+ years experience in motor controls, inverter design, and electric drives or electric machines
- 2+ years of industry hands-on lab experience in testing high voltage inverters, traction motors and related components
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of inverter and motor components, electromagnetics, traction motor topologies
- Strong understanding of inverter and motor components, electromagnetics, traction motor topologies
- Specific experience related to development of new inverter technology components interfacing with motor control systems
- Specific experience in developing control algorithms for electric machines (IPM, SynRM, SPM, IM)
- Solid foundation in control system theory, including system modeling, simulation, and advanced control design techniques.
- Provide technical guidance on advanced inverter and motor control topics
- System level experience integrating technology components to realize system performance, NVH, efficiency gains a plus
- Machine learning usage in virtual simulation a plus
- Knowledge of programming languages for prototype testing automation a plus
- Ability to manage maturing projects while also supporting early concept ideas simultaneously
- Must be a self-directed and motivated individual who is organized and able to accept multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Dana in a professional manner.
- Ability to innovate and turn concepts into successful technology solutions
- Ability to work on-site a minimum of (4) days per week from Boucherville, QC location
- Preference to communicate in both French and English languages
