Job Purpose

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible to create success through the installation, maintenance and service of machinery, mechanical and electrical systems in the plant and office in a safe manner and in trouble-free working order. In addition, the team member will provide functional electrical expertise to other maintenance department team members’ and/or production employees. A competent Maintenance Electrician can complete the following activities and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continually supports the achievement of the company’s Core Purpose and Values and uses them as parameters for decision making.

  • Supports in the solving of departmental and organizational issues using a team building approach, encouraging open communication, identifying the root cause of the issue, and taking steps to prevent future occurrences.
  • Actively supports and participates in the Company’s continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Always acts with the safety of team members at the forefront, correcting unsafe operations or environments immediately and/or bringing them to the Maintenance Manager’s attention.
  • Ensures when working with third party contractors that they undertake their work while on company premises in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate safety equipment is used at all times.
  • Responds immediately to mechanical and/or electrical breakdown of production machinery or building systems by identifying parts required, obtaining, and procuring the same and performing installation in an accurate manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Completes on a timely basis all preventative maintenance activities informing the Maintenance Manager, Supervisor, and/or Team Leader of situations where work cannot be undertaken or completed on time.
  • Installs and assembles new, or updates existing, plant machinery, mechanical and electrical systems as per drawings and specifications.
  • Responsible to ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment ensuring sufficient supplies are available.
  • Provides input to the Maintenance Manager to assist in the prioritization of maintenance requests to support all departments in meeting our customer needs.
  • Is an active participant in the implementation and ongoing utilization of eMaint, regularly updating work orders status and other components in eMaint bringing any discrepancies or issues to the attention of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Continually looks for ways to improve the maintenance function, manufacturing processes, product consistency and performance, ensuring ideas are communicated to the Maintenance Manager for feasibility assessment.
  • Has read and understands the departmental standard work instructions.
  • Able to react to change productively and participates in other projects or essential tasks as required or assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the company’s preventative maintenance program to minimize machine downtime, extend machine life, and maximize company resources, e.g. manpower, material expense.
  • Proactively identifies and repairs minor production machinery and building system situations.
  • Completes eMaint input, logbooks, and other surveys in an accurate and timely manner to assist in creating and maintaining a data base to enhance the Company’s decision making.
  • Provides suggestions on methods to minimize parts inventory while not diminishing the department’s ability to respond to emergency breakdown situations.
  • Displays co-operation, flexibility and adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Performs all duties with minimal errors and within required timeframes.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Licensed Industrial Electrician.
  • Proven experience in the installation and troubleshooting of industrial equipment and in the areas of PLC’s, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Computer literacy including Word, Excel and manufacturing software (i.e., eMaint).
  • Great attitude, work ethic, and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven reading comprehension skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
