Position: Gear Quality Engineer

Minimum years of experience: - 5-10 Years

Nature of experience: -OEM Auto / Auto Ancillary (tier 1)

Educational Qualifications: -B. E / BTech – Mechanical / Automotive Engineering M. E / MTech – Good to have

Specific skills:

• Minimum 3 years of quality engineering experience in the automotive, commercial vehicle, or off highway industries.

• Demonstrated computer proficiency with at least 2 years’ experience in various computer systems/programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab and other computer applications.

• Strong problem-solving skills using established methodologies including 8-D, 5-WHY, DOE, Red-X, etc. • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, GD&T, FMEA, ISO-9001 / TS-16949, control plans, Six-sigma, and GD&T.

• Engineering experience in using cylindrical and bevel gear design software from Gleason and/or Klingelnberg is preferred.

• Familiarity with the development and manufacturing of cylindrical and bevel gears is preferred.

• Must have at least 2 years of experience making written and verbal technical presentations in English to management and/or customers.

• Must be a self-directed and motivated individual who is willing to accept responsibility.

• Must have strong organization, team building, problem solving, planning, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.

• Must be willing and able to work extra hours as necessary to complete assignments and meet project deadlines.

• Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed based on business needs. Typical travel requirements are less than 15% and equally split between domestic and international. 

Job Description / Responsibilities

• This position is responsible for the coordination of quality control throughout the entire value stream associated with new and current prototype & production process layout, process flow, and poka-yokes for gearing. In addition, this position will be responsible for specifying gear inspection requirements, quality levels, monitoring performance levels and aid in program scheduling. Other duties include but are not limited to the following.

• Design and implement quality checks and KPI’s for the gear development process.

• Author and/or review all gear related procedures and controlled quality documentation within the quality system.

• This position is responsible for PPAP coordination of gear manufacturing facilities, both internal and external, and the analysis and disposition of PPAP parts. • Analyzing statistical process control (SPC) and operational execution efficiency in the gear lab and production facilities.

• Final and in-process inspections of gearing for various automotive and commercial applications to meet customer requirements in a fast-paced prototype lab environment.

• Review and approve summary release documentation for production release.

• Participate in customer meetings.

• Author detailed technical reports and create/make technical presentations.

• Participate in product design/development review meetings providing input on gear quality.

• Write service and material inspection requests, then review/approve lab set-ups and results.

• Assist production facilities with development, manufacturing, and troubleshooting of gears and splines.

• Participate and assist with new product launches at domestic and international facilities.

• Benchmarking and performing competitive gear analysis.
